"Why I Hate Hate"
I was on the phone for about 3 hours yesterday evening. One of my family members, one of the few I speak to at all, has denounced me as a living being, because they "hate that I am out here on my own and they must cater to the needs of the clan", so to speak.
They disowned me, because I am an adult which makes his own decisions, naysayers be damned. I succeeded, and that makes me bad.
I will spend xmas alone this year, first time that's happened to me. When I say alone, I mean utterly, I live where I know not a soul, alone. No tree. No presents. No stocking. No mistletoe hijinks. Nope. Just me, the ferret, cats, world of warcraft, guild wars, cigarettes, and all the food I choose to consume at random.
That is neither here nor there. What is here is hate. Why do people hate? What is the solution to it?
Rationality.

Hate, i would normally assume to be a product of greed....i guess that would apply here as well.
there is also ignorance, which can lead to the same thing....
hate that is the result from these two things is generally stubbourn...you cannot change the course of it.
but hell, i guess i shouldn't be talking. i don't have wisdom in such matters.

No, you're right on. What your family member did to you is total bs. Hate is a ridiculous emotion, unnecessary but rampant.

i wouldn't necessarily call hate an emotion....i can't think of anything to classify it as.
but your family estranging you like that is quite stupid of them. they should be wiser than that.

Awww, man, that sucks.
If you family doesn't like you then you don't need to like them. That statement has left me feeling weird.
Spend Christmas at a friend's party and get wasted SOT.
Merry Christmas

No offence, SOT, but it sounds like a long standing problem that's finally come to the breaking point. Still, that sucks. You shouldn't be alone for Christmas. I say, start now trying to find a wild Christmas party. Go to the company Christmas party, those can be scary fun sometimes. Hell, wander around your local mall crowd watching.
Christmas is a time when you should be spending time with those that make your life worth living for. Not just at this time of the year, but all year. Because, more than likely, you make their life worth living for as well.

I'd kill to spend christmas by myself, buying my own goddamn gifts and eating the food I cook. Christ I get tired of all the stupid shit from relatives who've no idea who I am on Christmas, I'd rather buy my own shit (but have an excuse for it.)

Eh? uh... wha?? they disowned you? that sucks badly man... but at least you have the games and rations to keep you through.
While I'm at it, although the parental door has slammed shut, a colossal world has opened in front of your eyes without knowledge. Go through it, and after Christmas, journey all over the world, get a good job (if you aren't in one) and keep playing games with your friends. Who knows, maybe somebody nearby will come and help you through this tough time.
The moral I'm saying is it sucks being in a group, but keep with friends and a great journey will await you... well maybe on the computer but maybe... just maybe even further outside

As for the fam thing, they are all small-town, small-minded dimwits who refuse to accept change. I guess denial IS more potent than a nuke.

Sorry to hear. I got the same response from some of my siblings when I graduated, because none of them did, they were embittered and refused to talk to me.
Hate is an emotion that will never go away. Now; reasonless hate is totally disgusting. Seeing as these people couldn't find a silver lining in a problem if it bit them, it seems rather scrooge-ish to me.
On the upside. You get to be a one man party, and then you turn it into a party later with the lady friend. So, you're not totally alone. I'll send you all the Egifts you want.
But seriously, sorry to hear, I come from a small town too. To suggest change would be heresy!
